I have finished the "You The Guru" free report by Sara Brown. I'll write my impressions about it to help me fix it in my brain cells.
The idea of being free of slave work, through smart (though still hard, but hey that's life!) work is great! And she sells it very well. Reading her analysis of what she calls "The wage slave con" is inspiring, specially when you agree with it. The idea of becoming an entrepeneur of the information age is surely tempting, very tempting. And perfectly possible, it is not a pipe dream. Unfortunately it is not for everyone. Some people just aren't cut for it. But we shall keep in mind that old IM saying "One doesn't fail at Internet Marketing, one just quit it" (I read it at the Warrior Forums, don't remember who said it and maybe it isn't that old).
If I'm not cut for it I'll work at it until I've become surgical-laser cut for the "job". That's self-lapidation 101. :)
She then speaks about how important it is to just launch yourself at action and just keep testing things until you suceeded. That's the number one advice any half-decent IMer could give a newbie: "Start now, dammit!". If one does nothing, nothing will happen. Just having this small, silly blog (I can consider it my first serious foray into the wild, wild web) already makes me feel better about myself. At least I started to do something. Imagine how I will feel when I suceeded and pocket some hundred thousand dollars!
She sells very well the idea that people don't buy stuff, they buy dreams and conceptions.
"People do not buy for practical reasons. They buy for emotional ones"
A marketer that sells a image of freedom , richness, health, whatever to his audience will sell 1000x times more than another that just lists, like a textbook, what his product is and what it does.
That's a powerful concept! I have to learn how to use it. It surely works. I have already spent almost US$ 1,500 dollars buying from anyone that managed to sold me a dream of freedom and broken shackles. Fortunately most of what I bought seems to be good, useful products. I didn't fell for any scam. (At least I'm not that dumb :) )
I'll learn. Then I'll just have to apply it in the real world. And fail. And test. And succeed, test again, fail, succeed, fail, fail, succeed, succeed, succeed... ad infinitum, until I have more success than failures under my belt, and I know why I'm succeding. Then I'll know what I'm doing and I'll replicate it. More and more. In this blessed day, I'll be a free man!
Very hard work, but good work. Not the senseless waste I have to do to enrich others.
Another good part is when she talks about only spending on some IM product when you know for sure that you'll need it and you know how to use it to multiply your profits. Otherwise it will just be a waste of time and money.
The biggest problem for a clueless newbie is knowing what to sell, how to sell and to who. I guess that with all the research tools at hand and with so many options, like affiliate programs and PLR, things can be slightly easier. But I guess that I'll have to shoot at all sides until I hit some target, and things start to make sense.
At least that's what I'll do. Let's see what's happens next! ;)
